2010 Cranksgiving in June

Seven riders turned out to spend $387.06 collecting 596 pounds of food for Food Gatherers of Washtenaw County. The Unlimited Poundage award went to Sandy Bledsoe, who collected an amazing 330 pounds of food (nearly three times his body weight!). The Shopping List Award went to Andy Hromadka, who collected 1.3 pounds of food per minute in his single trip. The People's Choice Award went to Luke Robinson for his creation of an ad-hoc handlebar bag using one of those reusable plastic bags from Sav-a-Lot. In addition, a total of $96.68 was donated to Food Gatherers — Andy and Sandy donated their cash prizes and Sandy donated the rest of the cash he had raised.

Cranksgiving in June

You've probably heard of Cranksgiving, races held each year near Thanksgiving to collect food to donate to local food banks. Ypsilanti Velo has been happy to help out with the local Cranksgiving the past three years, the last of which brought in an impressive 800 pounds of food for Food Gatherers.

Food Gatherers, the food bank for Washtenaw County, sees a lot of generosity around the holidays at the end of the year, but the need for donations is high year around, especially now. With that in mind, Ypsilanti Velo is holding a Cranksgiving in June, the same idea, just earlier in the year.

This year there are two classes of races:

First place in both classes gets a $25 cash prize!

Links to signs and various media can be found here. For more information, contact info@ypsivelo.org.

Note: are you a business or organization that is wanting to help out with Cranksgiving in June? Ypsilanti Velo is looking for anything we can use as prizes for racers. Send us an e-mail if you are interested to info@ypsivelo.org.

Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor 2009 Cranksgiving

29 riders braved the December cold to collct 800 lbs of food for Food Gatherers. Prizes went out to:

While we gathered less than the 1000lbs we got last year at this time, we also had more riders then, so our pounds per rider has definitely gone up.

Special thanks to all of our sponsors, who were very generous this year:

Thanks again for coming out, and see you for Crankgiving in June, sometime in June 2010!

Cranksgiving 2009

Cranksgiving 2009: Ann Arbor

Cranksgiving, the annual race to benefit Food Gatherers of Washtenaw County, is a go! Starting and finishing in the Busch's parking lot, you'll have two hours to ride to area grocery stores to buy food to donate to Food Gatherers. Last year we gathered a ton (literally!) of food, this year let's do even more!

Bring: Money to buy food, something to haul it in, and your bike. Ride safe: helmets and lights recommended.

See the event on Facebook.

Cider and Doughnut Tour

Come join YpsiVelo on the Cider and Doughnut Tour:

No cost, no race, just a nice leisurely ride from Rec Park to Plymouth Orchard's Ann Arbor Road Store to pick up some cider and doughnuts. Enjoy your cider and doughnuts with fellow riders in the lovely Fall weather in Rec Park.

Bring: Money to buy cider and doughnuts, something to haul cider and doughnuts, a hunger for ... cider and doughnuts. Of course, since the weather will be late fall and dreary, dress appropriately and be visible.

Questions:info@ypsivelo.org

Thanks to Bike Ypsi for promotion. Normal Bike Ypsi rules apply: youngsters must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, helmets recommended and are required for minors.

Cranksgiving in June 2009

While I always wish for more folks at races, I think this was an impressive haul: nine riders collected 815 pounds of food for Food Gatherers, the food bank for Washtenaw County. Sharing the prize for largest haul is Pieter Kleymeer and Jimmy Ragget with 325 pounds (a team average of 162.5 pounds). Sharing the prize for Best Budget Haul (most pounds gathered for dollars spent) are Jim and Forrest Karnopp with a total of 93 pounds of food in 41.35 dollars for 2.25 lbs/$. The People's Choice Haul went to Andy Hromadka, the only person not in a team who brought in 72 pounds of food solo.
